Since our last blog post the clothes that we had gathered from the tournament were donated to the Bethalto community hope center. For our project we overall had a good outcome. We gathered what felt like a ton of clothing to donate. From the start of our project we knew that we wanted to give back to the less fortunate. We thought that they often need clothes so why don't we find clothes and donate. We did not want to just go door to door asking for clothes so we decided to make something fun for people to do. We thought about many games to do or what would be possible but we thought a dodge ball tournament was an amazing idea. After everything was chosen we had to find a facility and everything else for the event. We found that we could hold the event at corner stone church. We then gathered up teams and told them that if they wanted to enter they all had to bring and article of clothing. Everyone agreed and they all brought clothing. Some people brought more clothing that was expected which was a tremendous help to the event. Overall we had a big success on the amount of clothing we provided.

In this week we actually had our tournament. We did not have as many people come out as we thought we would but we actually collected a lot of clothing. We hosted our event at a local church for around two and a half hours. For our event it was supposed to be a dodge ball tournament. We hosted a dodge ball tournament where we played dodge ball games, and at the end we got our a few basketballs and did some of those games. Overall at the event we did not have the greatest turn out for people but we had an amazing amount of clothing. We will be bringing all of the clothes that we had donated to the Bethalto community hope center. We will be hopefully donating the clothing this weekend. For our tournament we had a ton of teams cancel or say that they could not come. With this happening we were still able to make 2 teams and have a successful event. We will now be really focusing on the presentation at the end of the year. This will be in front of the school and other spectators. We do not have very much for our project but we will now start.
This week we are making big movements forward in our project. This week we officially have fliers made so that we can hand out or post. We also talked to people including our teacher about publicizing our event. He is allowing us to make a slide and have it on the monitors during school. This will publicize the event dramatically. We also talked to our principal and he is allowing one of our group members to talk during the morning announcements, which will be huge on people hearing about our project. We think that this will dramatically increase the interest in our project. This week i also typed out all of the rules, so now we have a set group of rules that will apply during the tournament so that it is fair. This week we officially have our dodge balls for the tournament. Overall this was a very productive week because we have improved and are so many steps closer to the end goal of our project. When we collect the clothing we are currently arranging a time to meet with the community hope center to find a time when we can exchange the clothing. This is all that we have done and what we are working on at the moment.
Our project started in 2018 and was originally to host a dodge ball tournament and have the entry fee be one article of clothing that could have been donated to the salvation army. This was for the reason that we do not have to deal with money and we are helping a local place. The dodge ball tournament is going to be hosted at cornerstone church and we will use the national dodge ball rules. This is what we have already accomplished. Recently we have changed from helping the Salvation army, and have not decided on a new cause to help. Currently we are in the process of obtaining dodge balls. We were previously going to use large marshmallows, but we decided that it would most likely create a mess. Right now we are in the process of making flyers to hand out, and post around. We are going into the future and going to find out rough estimate of the number of people that would be going to show up. This would be to know approximately how long the event will last. These will be all of our plans from last year and going into this year.
For our project this week, we got a little done for our project, we finally had the salvation army called. When I called the salvation army they seemed to like the idea. The woman we were talking to told us that we would have to wait a minute and she would find the person that would deal with things like this. The woman came back and she said that the representative that we needed to talk to was not in the office today. We are now waiting for the salvation army to call us back and let us know if they can give us shirts or anything to give away. They said that they will let us know as soon as they can. We want to give away shirts because it could be a cool incentive to win. For the way that we are going to make brackets we need to see who is all going to show up. For this we have discussed ideas with our teacher but we will find out as a group what one we want to use. This is gonna give us a gauge on how many people will show up. Hello, for this week we as a group have done a lot for our project, Dodge for a Cause. We as a group found out we can use the facility corner stone church for tournament, we just have to turn in dates for the tournament which is currently undecided. Our plan was to have the event happen sometime in mid January. One plan we just made for our group is to talk to the salvation army and get some shirts if they have any that we could give away to the dodge ball winners as a sponsorship for the tournament. On a personal level I will be taking care of the rules and brackets for the tournament. Right now we are planning on going high school students have a bracket, then the middle school students have their our bracket and the winners from each will hopefully both be awarded shirts at the end of the tournament. The rules for the tournament will be two teams on a basketball sized court, you have to start on the baseline, then run out to half court to grab giant marshmallows. This is gonna be our replacement for doge balls to make it for fun and different for the competitors. That is mainly what we as a team and me on a personal level accomplished this week.
This will be my blog for our 20 times project "Dodge for a cause". I am Jake and basically our project is to raise clothing for the salvation army. In our group we will have people getting in contact with someone from the salvation army to see if we can spread what kind of clothing is needed. Another task we have is getting a place to to host our tournament. We are pretty sure that we have a facility to host our tournament. We are pretty sure that Parker can let us use his church gym, because his dad is the pastor at his church. Another task we have at hand is that we need to find dodge balls to use for the tournament. We think that we may be able to use balls from the church if they let us. One final task we have is actually getting people to show up. Parker's dad advertise for us at service at his church. Matthew can have his mom advertise it at the middle school to the kids for our tournament. We are all still deciding if we are going to have all ages together or if we are going to have age groups. One of our last finally task is to deal with the salvation army, because we do not know if we have to have someone from the salvation army come to over see everything or if we deliver it later. We will find a for sure answer this week on if we can have our facility at Cornerstone church. I will be making the rules and everything for our tournament this week. |
